Outreach

Outreach is just what it sounds like - the act of reaching out. Sometimes we refer to outreach as “community engagement.”

As Christians, we are called to love our neighbor as ourselves, with a particular command to care for the poor, the sick, and the isolated (James 1:27). This is an ethos that informs how we live as Christians and how we participate in shared life as a church.

Serving our neighbors

We do our best to care for the congregation and our neighbors as a family, providing for the material, relational, and spiritual wellbeing of those who come into contact with The Hill.

This isn’t a transactional relationship, but a mutual one. Through the ebbs and flows of life - through hard times and good times - we try to carry the load for one another. Sometimes we are the ones helping; other times, we are the ones in need of help. And that’s what it means to be part of the household of God.

We also reach out in some more formal ways, by volunteering with the local food pantry and with a number of other organizations. Our volunteer opportunities are shared across our two campuses. So if you get involved, you’ll meet people from the wider congregation, not just those who worship at The Hill.

Hillside Early Childhood Center is a major part of our community and our mission, and we work with school staff and families to support the school community.

In The Hill’s neighborhood, we partner with Bread for All Food Pantry, a multi-church outreach program run by Austin City Lutherans.

Additionally, many of our members are involved with nonprofits and charitable organizations throughout the city. This is one way that Christian love overflows to impact people and communities far beyond the institutional church.
